Haflinger Horses
| Haflingers are small draft horses that are very versatile and can be a good family horse. Sturdy enough for most riders but small enough for children. The Haflinger horse can be traced to medieval times when writings told of an Oriental race of horse found in the Southern Tyrolean Mountains of present day Austria and northern Italy. The modern Haflinger traces back to 1874 when the foundation stallion 249 Folie was born. All purebred Haflingers can trace their ancestry to Foli. Haflingers are known for their golden chestnut color and long white manes and tails. |

1991 saw the first Haflinger on the farm. Dolly was a Haflinger/Belgium cross, she had a 4 month old colt and was bred again. She wasn't the prettiest mare but she was quiet and stood patiently as I learned to harness and drive her.
BJ, Dolly's colt, went on to work at Lincoln Log Cabin State Historical Site. He pulled wagons and farm equipment used on the living history farm.

1992 saw the first registered mare. Lulena GJF is still here. She raised several prize winning foals, including a pair of geldings that spent a summer on Mackinac Island hauling tourists around. She is now retired from a successful broodmare career.
Her companion in retirement is Cora Beth. Cora is nice quiet mare that has also raised several nice foals, including the 3 that made the cover of the Haflinger Horse Magazine.
Member of Illinois Haflinger Association and American Haflinger Registry.
Here are some of the mares and the babies that were raised here.
