The cattle raised here are purchased at a local livestock auction, just after
they were weaned. They are wormed when they arrive. No hormones, implants, or
antibiotics are used. The cattle are usually Black Angus, sometimes a Hereford.
They spend their summer grazing in pasture. In the late fall they are brought
into a smaller lot. There they have shelter, heated water, and all the grass hay
they can eat. In the spring they go back out into the pasture.
These cattle receive almost no grain. The only grain they get is cracked corn, nothing with any animal protein in it. They get just a small amount to teach them to come when someone rattles a can of grain, makes it much easier to move them when necessary. The cattle are here about year and a half before they are big enough to slaughter. They are hauled to a local butcher, where they are processed and inspected by the USDA. The meat is available by halves or quarters and custom cut to your specifications. It can be picked up frozen directly from the butcher.
The grass fed beef has excellent flavor and is tender. It has also been shown to have healthier fat ratios than the grain-fed beef common in supermarkets.
